TSMC brings its most advanced chipmaking node to the US yet, months ahead of schedule

TSMC is accelerating its second Arizona fab, bringing 3-nanometer chipmaking to the U.S. earlier than planned. Equipment installation begins months ahead of schedule, with production now targeted for 2027 instead of the original 2028 timeline. This is the most advanced semiconductor manufacturing node TSMC has committed to building outside of Taiwan. Good news for U.S. chip sovereignty — though every gallon of water TSMC uses in the Arizona desert is a reminder that not every state has that problem.
