Felony charges are on file over last month's daylight shootout in Bloomington's South Loop District, and the case now reaches past the 2 men caught after a chase. The gunfire broke out on a weekday afternoon outside the Carbon31 apartments at 8100 31st Ave. Police later arrested the man who was shot, along with a 21-year-old man from the apartment, on suspicion of aggravated robbery and rioting. Neither had been formally charged as of Sept. 25.
Treshawn Robinson, 21, of Brooklyn Park, is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, second-degree riot and fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle. Ramaius Sinoe-Walker, 20, of Lakeville, faces the same assault and riot counts plus possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. The assault charge carries up to 7 years and a fine of $4,200 to $14,000. The riot charge carries up to 5 years and $10,000. The fleeing count carries up to 3 years and 1 day and $5,000, and the gun charge carries up to 15 years and $30,000.
The shooting happened on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Police said officers got more than 40 emergency calls reporting gunfire between 2 groups of males. A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg. He was taken to a hospital. Officers found several discharged cartridge casings at the scene. Police Chief Booker Hodges called it a drug deal gone bad. Police said the wounded man told them he had been trying to sell marijuana and that a buyer shot him after demanding the product.
The chase ended on American Boulevard. Police said officers spotted a red Nissan SUV heading west on Lindau Lane and tried to pull it over. The driver fled east on American Boulevard. When the SUV tried a U-turn, officers used a PIT maneuver to stop it. Police said Sinoe-Walker tossed a gun while running, and officers found a second gun under the driver's seat.
Police made 3 arrests that day. They initially said the third man was arrested at the apartment on narcotics charges. Hodges said several handguns were found at the apartment and that the 3 men "have an extensive record with law enforcement for violent offenses." He also said he believed more people took part in the shooting, and he urged them to turn themselves in. He said there was no longer a danger to the public.
What happens to the robbery and riot case against the 2 men from the apartment is still unclear. Police haven't said whether anyone else from either group has been identified. Charges are allegations, and everyone involved is presumed innocent unless convicted.
