Fraud in Minnesota's public programs is the topic at this Tuesday's Republican Seniors of Minnesota meeting in Bloomington. The speaker is Bill Walsh, vice president of communications at Center of the American Experiment.
The meeting starts at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Masonic Heritage Center, 11411 Masonic Home Drive. The announcement puts it in Riverside Hall. The group's website lists Evergreen Hall as its usual room, so follow the signs when you get there. Admission is $5 for members and $10 for everyone else.
Walsh has spent about 25 years in Minnesota politics and communications, according to his bio. He worked for the Minnesota Senate, the House and the Republican Party of Minnesota, and he was communications director at 2 state agencies under Gov. Tim Pawlenty. He was also elected to the White Bear Lake City Council in 2015 and reelected in 2019.
He has given this kind of talk before. At an earlier event in Owatonna, Walsh and policy fellow Bill Glahn walked through what they describe as fraud schemes involving child care, food programs funded through Medicaid, care for people with disabilities and housing programs. A recurring theme of that talk was the red flags that the think tank believes state agencies should have caught. Expect a presentation that makes a case.
He has also spoken to this group before. The group's video archive includes an earlier Walsh talk that asked whether younger generations are being cheated by the false promises of progressive policies.
Republican Seniors of Minnesota meets on the second Tuesday of every month except December. Sign-in starts at 9:30 a.m. Membership is open to people 50 and older, and annual dues are $30 for individuals and $50 for couples. If you'd rather watch from home, the group livestreams and records its meetings on its website. Watching is free and doesn't require registration.
