Kwik Trip now owns the land for its first Bloomington store, a pair of commercial parcels at 1000 and 1050 W. 94th Street, just east of the Interstate 35W ramps.
The two commercial buildings on the site, both more than 40 years old, will come down to make way for a roughly 7,300-square-foot convenience store with underground fuel storage, an 8-dispenser fueling canopy able to serve 16 vehicles at once, and 31 parking stalls, according to Kwik Trip's application with the city. The design calls for a green metal roof, almond-colored trim, a brick facade, LED signage and an 8-foot-wide sidewalk along the site. The property is zoned for general industrial use, under which a convenience store with fuel sales is allowed as a conditional use.
The Bloomington Planning Commission signed off on the site and building plans earlier this year, and the City Council held a public hearing in June to vacate drainage and utility easements on the property so construction can proceed.
Kwik Trip plans to run the store around the clock, stocking it like its other stores with fresh produce, bakery and dairy items, hot and cold food, meat and groceries, tobacco, lottery tickets, alcohol, and gas, diesel, E-85, ice and propane. "We bring a brand that is focused on the customer experience," senior real estate manager Lisa Wadsen said.
Construction is expected to start in spring 2027, with a typical build time of about five months, meaning Bloomington's first Kwik Trip could open later that year. The company projects the store will employ 25 to 35 people with an annual payroll around $600,000.
The La Crosse, Wisconsin-based chain already runs 225 stores across Minnesota and has 11 more slated to open elsewhere in the state this year, but the Bloomington location marks its first foothold in the city.
