The 3rd Congressional District wasn't close. With more than 98% of precincts reporting, DFL Rep. Kelly Morrison had 239,923 votes, or 64.0%, to Republican Tyler Bass's 134,503, or 35.9%. That gives Morrison a 2nd term in the U.S. House seat that covers Bloomington.

The district takes in a big piece of the west and north metro. Besides Bloomington, it includes Anoka, Coon Rapids, Brooklyn Park, Champlin, Chanhassen, part of Edina and a long list of other communities.

Morrison is an OBGYN who has practiced in Minnesota for more than 20 years. Before Congress she served in the state Legislature: the Minnesota House from 2018 to 2022, then the state Senate. In 2024 she ran for the U.S. House, and her 1st term began in 2025. She sits on the House Small Business and Veterans' Affairs committees.

In her answers to the general-election voter's guide, Morrison put cost of living first. "I want to lower the cost of prescription drugs by expanding the Medicare drug price negotiation program," she wrote. She also came out against tariff policies, which she said cost Minnesotans "$4.8 billion" more. On health care, she said she wants to reverse cuts made in the Trump administration's health care legislation. Her other priorities: ending the Iran conflict, protecting "our lakes and rivers — including the Boundary Waters," and comprehensive immigration reform.

Bass didn't fill out the general-election questionnaire, so voters got to know him mostly from the biography he sent in after the primary deadline. He grew up in Blooming Prairie. He founded At Home Fitness, became a licensed life and health insurance agent, and now runs Cities Exteriors, an exterior services company. He ran on "accountability, common sense, and real-world business experience."

With a margin like this, the outcome won't change much as the last precincts come in. Results aren't official until the state canvass, but Morrison is headed back to Washington.
