It happened at the Holiday Stationstore at 8920 Penn Ave. on June 28, around 2:15 p.m. A 21-year-old Bloomington man had stepped out from his shift at the nearby Dollar Tree when two women confronted him inside the store. One of them, 22, knocked the phone out of his hand with a miniature bat. He grabbed his phone, walked out, and called police, according to the Sun Current.
The women told police they were hunting for someone else entirely. A 19-year-old woman had been approached near the 8900 block of Penn Avenue by an unknown man who demanded money, then grabbed her and tried to go through her pockets. She got away and ran to a friend's house on Russell Avenue, where the 22-year-old grabbed the bat before the pair went out looking for the attacker. They found the Dollar Tree employee instead, per the Sun Current.
The 22-year-old was booked on suspicion of second-degree assault and property damage. Hennepin County declined to charge her, and the city attorney's office is now weighing a fifth-degree assault charge, the Sun Current reported. The man who actually tried to rob the 19-year-old was never caught.
