Last week was about as low-key as summer weather gets around here. MSP opened with a 93° scorcher on July 20, then eased off into a run of comfortable days — 80° on the 21st, a downright pleasant 75° on the 22nd, then back up through the low-to-mid 80s by the weekend. Rain was a non-issue: 0.18" on the 20th, a trace of 0.01" on the 24th, and nothing else. No records fell. If you had outdoor plans, this was your week.
That break from the heat is over. A Heat Advisory issued by NWS Twin Cities Sunday night stays in effect until 8 p.m. Monday, with heat index values pushing to 98°. Tonight stays muggy with a low around 80° and that same 98° heat index — it's not going to feel like relief after sundown.
Monday itself climbs to a high near 93°, mostly sunny with west-northwest wind 5 to 15 mph and gusts to 25 mph — worth knowing if you've got anything set up outdoors that could catch wind. A cold front swings through Monday night, dropping things to a more tolerable 70° with north-northeast breezes, but don't get comfortable: Tuesday rebounds to 89° under sunny skies, and Wednesday climbs right back to 92°.
Bottom line for the week ahead: after a genuinely calm stretch, Bloomington heads into a stretch of real summer heat, with the advisory covering the worst of it through Monday evening. If you've got runs, ballgames, or anything at the parks planned for Monday afternoon, plan around the midday hours and don't skip the water bottle.
