If Sunday felt like the middle of July, that's because it was that hot. The high reached 90°, a record for October 11 in Twin Cities weather books that go back to 1871. That's more than 150 years of Octobers, and none of them had a hotter 11th.
Nights haven't cooled off much either. Sunday's low was only 65°, and no rain fell. Overnight the low is around 66° under mostly cloudy skies, and the temperature is expected to climb to about 69° before sunrise, with a light south-southwest wind around 5 mph. If you shut off the AC for the season, you may want an open window tonight.
Columbus Day stays warm but not record-warm. Expect mostly sunny skies and a high near 82°. There's a 20% chance of a shower or thunderstorm between 2pm and 4pm. That's not enough to cancel a trail walk or a round of golf, but if you're out on open ground, keep an eye on the sky that afternoon. Wind will be barely there, 0 to 5 mph out of the east-northeast.
Then the north wind takes over. Monday night drops to around 54° with a north-northwest breeze of 5 to 10 mph. Tuesday tops out near 66° under partly sunny skies, and Tuesday night falls to about 49°. Wednesday is mostly sunny with a high near 63°.
Going from 90° on Sunday to 63° by Wednesday is a big drop in a few days. Midweek is closer to what October usually feels like here: jacket in the morning, maybe not by afternoon, and good weather for raking leaves or a walk around the lake. If you were waiting to put the shorts away, Wednesday is a good time to do it.
