The Bloomington Housing and Redevelopment Authority and Outlaw Development held a groundbreaking for two single-family homes, one at 1210 West 82nd Street and another at 8313 Blaisdell Avenue. The developer said the project has been in the works for a little over nine months, with construction expected to finish in spring or early summer 2027. The homes will then be sold to local families at an affordable price.

Speakers described the two homes as part of the City of Bloomington's affordable housing program, which aims to build 27 owner-occupied homes over the next few years. They cited steadily rising housing costs that put homeownership out of reach for many, and said the program is meant to make Bloomington more accessible and livable for families.

A representative of Outlaw Development said they had experienced homelessness and lived in social housing, which makes building affordable homes for low-income residents personally important. A family member involved with the company also spoke, expressing pride in what the family has accomplished through Outlaw Development and Element Gym.
