Robert Coleman now holds a seat on Bloomington's Planning Commission, and the city has set the end date. Its official roster lists Coleman as a commissioner whose term expires June 30, 2029. That works out to the full 3-year term he was appointed to.
Coleman was sworn in as a newly appointed member at the commission's July 9, 2026 meeting, in front of the board he was joining. The oath made him eligible to take part in the commission's deliberations and votes.

The commission is an unpaid volunteer board of 7 residents, and it does a lot of the early work on what gets built in Bloomington. The city says commissioners hold hearings, review applications and make recommendations as the City Code requires. They also weigh in on variances and appeals, on proposed changes to the zoning and subdivision rules, and on amendments to the Comprehensive Plan and district plans. Transportation falls under the board too: street changes, parking, traffic plans, transit, and bike and pedestrian infrastructure. In most cases the commission makes a recommendation and the City Council has the final vote.
Coleman joins Chair Kevin Cunningham, Vice Chair Abdi Isse and commissioners Deanna White, Anne Linnee, Jared Munster and Madeline Summers, per the city's roster. Terms end at different times. White's and Cunningham's run through June 30, 2027, while Isse's, Linnee's and Munster's run through June 30, 2028. Coleman and Summers have the longest runway, with terms through June 30, 2029.
The commission meets on Thursdays at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Bloomington Civic Plaza, 1800 West Old Shakopee Road. Residents can attend in person or watch past meetings, including the one where Coleman took his oath, on the city's YouTube playlist. The city also takes applications from residents who want to serve on the commission.
