The hockey movie finally gets its turn. "The Mighty Ducks" plays Saturday, Oct. 10, on the big screen in Mall of America's North Lot. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the film starts at 8:30 p.m. It was supposed to show Sept. 19, but the mall said it moved the screening because of forecasted high winds. If you bought tickets for the September date, you don't need to do anything. The mall said those tickets carry over to the new date automatically.
Movies at the Star is the mall's outdoor movie series, at 2131 Lindau Lane. The mall describes it as a blockbuster film with pre-show entertainment, food trucks and an open-air setup. You can watch from your car or from a lawn chair. The series opened Aug. 22 with "Top Gun: Maverick." The last show is Saturday, Oct. 17: "Hocus Pocus," just in time for Halloween. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the film starts at 8 p.m. Showtimes get earlier as the evenings get shorter.
Here's what it costs. A Car Pass is $25. It covers 1 vehicle, up to 6 people and a parking spot. If you'd rather sit outside, a Lawn Lounge Pass is $7 per person and comes with a lawn chair supplied by the mall. Only the mall's own chairs are allowed in the Lawn Lounge. Car pass holders can bring their own chairs, but only to use inside their parking space. Tickets are sold on the mall's ticketing page.
If you want "Hocus Pocus" from your car, you may need to settle for the lawn. The mall's event page says car passes for the Oct. 17 show are sold out, but the ticketing page didn't show that when we checked. Check before you count on a parking spot.
The mall suggests getting there early. The pre-show includes music, lawn games, photo spots and food trucks. You can't do your own tailgating, though: the mall bans grills, open flames and cooking of any kind. Pets aren't allowed either. Service animals, as defined by the ADA, are the only exception. Weapons, fireworks and drones are also off-limits unless the mall approves them.
September already showed that the weather gets a vote. The mall says that if a show is canceled because of bad weather, the film will play the next evening at the same scheduled time. It's October in Minnesota, so bring a blanket either way.
