The Stanley tumbler, the giant insulated cup you see in every cupholder, is now listed as a dangerous weapon in a Bloomington police case. Police arrested a 19-year-old Roseville woman on suspicion of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon after a fight in a Mall of America parking ramp.
Police said the fight started around 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 21. The Roseville woman was riding as a passenger in her sister's car and got annoyed with how an 18-year-old Plymouth woman was driving in the ramp. She told police the other driver "was not using her lights or driving well in the ramp."
Police said the 2 women yelled at each other from their cars. Then the Roseville woman got out and hit the Plymouth woman's car with the tumbler. The 2 accounts split from there. The Roseville woman said the Plymouth woman got out and touched her first. The Plymouth woman said she was recording the confrontation on her phone when the phone was grabbed and thrown.
Police said surveillance video showed the Roseville woman getting out of her car, taking the Plymouth woman's phone, and hitting her with the tumbler once she got out, "knocking her down with the first strike."
Police said the Plymouth woman was taken to the hospital. She "lost a tooth, required several stitches and may have a facial fracture."
Police said the Roseville woman and her sister drove away at first, then parked somewhere else and walked into the mall. Mall security followed them inside, and police arrested the 19-year-old there. Police said she told them she is pregnant. She has not been named, and the case has not been reported as decided in court.
Mall of America's ramps are about to get busier with holiday shopping. If another driver makes you angry, the safest move is to let it go and leave. If it turns into a threat, call 911.
