Mall of America opened up the Huntington Bank Rotunda for free public screenings of FIFA World Cup 26 Round of 16 matches, part of the mall's ongoing "Football in the Mall" series. The lineup ran Monday, July 6, with games at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. (the 7 p.m. slot was USA vs. Belgium), followed by two more matches Tuesday, July 7, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
No ticket, no admission fee — just a big screen and a crowd in the middle of the mall. It's the same setup MOA has used all tournament: pull chairs up to the Rotunda, watch the match play out with strangers, wander off to the food court at halftime.
The series wraps with the biggest match of all. "Football in the Mall: The Final" screens the Spain-Argentina championship match Sunday, July 19, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., also in the Rotunda and also free, with soccer-themed face painting and a balloon wall for anyone who wants to make an afternoon of it.
